Monari's Live Classes

About the Course:

Monari is the Live Classes tutor and will explore a variety of mediums and techniques, ranging from sketching to abstract, figurative and still life.

Monari delivers the class via Zoom on the spot on Sundays 6-8pm, that may suit some Deaf people who are keen to learn and do the art work simultaneously without any preparation.

First Live class 16th May and last 20th June (no class 6th June, Queens birthday) on Zoom Sundays 6-8pm.

Monari's 1st Live Class on Sunday 16th May for TWO hours, 6-8pm, on Zoom (Monari emails the zoom invite to all the participants prior to the live class)

Course Outline

Monari’s Live Art Classes MOA (Deaf), Term 2, 2021

Week 1: 16th May
“SKETCHING BASICS” with pencil and pen drawings.
Find two objects and have them ready for the 1st Live Class.

  •  sketch pad (from $2 shops, 110gsm if possible for wet strength) for classes and practice (as visual diary) 
  • set of pencils (find around house, if not $2 shop, B range ideal) 
  • pens (from $2 shops, sharpie) 
  • eraser (find around house but can go without) 
  • sharpener (find around house, if not, sharp knife to scrap pencil)

    Week 2:
    23rd May
    “ABSTRACT ART” with watercolours.

  • watercolour set ($6 from Warehouse Stationery)
  • multi purpose brushes suitable for watercolours and acrylic 
  • pot (find an old glass jar or used yoghurt pot?) 
  • Old fabrics (rags, cut up towels to clean,wipe brushes)
  •  watercolour paper – one large sheet from $2 shop, to cut up into A4 sizes, if not, use sketch pad (week 1)

    Week 3: 30th May
    “FIGURATIVE ART” with charcoal and indian ink.

  • charcoal 
  • indian ink - FAS (black) 60ml (at extra cost) otherwise can have pens (week 1) o Brushes, the same as watercolour (week 2) o Sketch pad (week 1) 
  • HELMAR varnish crystal Kote fixative clear (at extra cost) 6th June – Queen’s Birthday Weekend – no class

    Week 4: 13th June
    “A STARRY NIGHT” with acrylic paints and a colour wheel.

  • Pencils (from week 1) o Acrylic Brushes, plus fan brushes the same as watercolour (week 2) 
  • Rough, scrap paper, old envelopes for example for mixing colours  
  • Acrylic paint kit ($6 from Warehouse stationary or 5 essential coloured paints from $2 in small pots, primary colours and B&W) 
  • Old plate to mix colours, too if preferred then test on scrap paper 
  • Sketch pad for painting and colour wheel

    Week 5: 20th June
    “STILL LIFE” with mixed media.

  • use up the materials as above 
  • black paper (individual sheets, $2 shop, to cut up into small sizes) if desired, at extra cost
